Unlike aerobic respiration, anaerobic respiration is the process where oxygen is NOT required in order to make energy for the cell. How anaerobic respiration works is, for example, say you are running a marathon; while you are running your body releases carbon dioxide and your body is burning off calories and fat from a chemical called lactic acid. Lactic acid is the chemical helps burning off waste in your body and muscles if we work in a short time period. Anaerobic respiration does happen in living things but for those non-living things, it works as well if they are lacking oxygen.
